Essex Bat Group Events 2010.

Please find below our exciting programme of Bat Events planned for 2010. Come and find out more about these fascinating creatures of the night on guided walks, colony counts, talks and much more. Everybody is welcome to attend these events, but please note that some events require advance booking and some events may request a donation. At most events a number of bat detectors will be provided to be shared between the group. For your own comfort and safety please bring along a torch and wear suitable clothing and footwear. In the event of heavy rain or strong winds the event will be cancelled. Contact event leader for further information.

Essex Bat Group AGM Friday 26th February Boreham Village Hall 7.30pm - 10pm The (brief) AGM will start at 8pm and will be followed by a talk from Daniel Hargrieves on the Nietoperek, Poland. There will also be a roundup of the activities of the group giving members an opportunity to find out how to can get involved. Members and non-members are welcome to arrive at 7.30pm to look at displays and talk to the committee and other key members of the group before the formal part of the evening. Tea and coffee will be served.


Bat Detector Course - Sunday 21st March Leader Neil Harvey at Essex Wildlife Trust HQ, Abbotts Hall Farm, Gt Wigborough, Colchester 9.45am to start at 10am. Finish 12-12.30. This course is suitable for complete beginners and those who have already started. If you have a detector bring it along or if you are wondering which one to buy then wait until you have attended the course. Numbers limited, Course FREE to paid up members of the Essex Bat Group. Bat Evening Essex Wildlife Trust Langdon Visitor Centre Saturday 17th April 8pm - 10.00 pm The evening will start with a short talk looking at the bats that can be found on the reserve and then we will be going out on to the reserve with bat detectors. Thordon County Park (South) Friday 30th April 2010 Meet 7.30pm at the South Pavillion Cafe Come along to one or both ! This beautiful park is a mosaic of open grasslands, hedgerows, wood pasture, ancient and secondary woodland with plenty of veteran trees, a lake and ponds with lots of potential for a variety of bat species. Previous surveys have been very successful with plenty of bat activity. You will be contributing to important annual survey work of the park. The evenings are suitable for all those with Frequency Division and /or Time Expansion detectors and recorders who wish to gain more experience in field survey techniques. Those with Heterodyne detectors or just a general interest in bats are also very welcome. Please bring a torch, waterproof clothing, wear stout waterproof footwear and bring your own refreshments if you wish. Bat Walk Saturday 8 May - Bourne Valley Local Nature Reserve A gentle wander from the bat roost, in the cemetery, to Bourne Pond with a bat expert from the Essex Bat Group identifying different bat species with a detector. Elsenham Church Bat Event Saturday, 22nd May. A chance to encounter the chiropteran occupants of this historic church in the company of experienced bat folk.
